Overview
The EECS Department is the largest in the school ofEngineering with about 700 graduate students in the doctoral program.
Graduatestudy in the department moves students towards mastery of areas of individualinterest, through course work and significant research, often defined ininterdisciplinary areas that take advantage of the tremendous range of facultyexpertise in the department and, more broadly, across MIT.
Given the breadth of faculty within EECS, the department pursues a wide range ofresearch topics. These range from theoretical computer science, computersystems and architecture, graphics, robotics, computer vision, machinelearning, computational applications in medicine, computational biology,communications, information theory, control systems, large scale systemsanalysis, circuits, devices, power and energy, numerical computing, novel materialsfor devices, nanotechnology, manufacturing, biotechnology, speech and hearing,prosthetic devices, analog and hybrid circuits and devices, and many, many more.
Thedepartment’s faculty members are widely recognized as leading figures in theirfields. Included are more than 40 members of the National Academy ofEngineering, more than 10 members of the National Academy of Sciences, severalNational Medal of Technology winners, as well as many Fellows of professionalsocieties, such as the IEEE, ACM, APS, AAAI and others.

The application website(see link below) will become available on September 15, 2010 for students whowish to apply for graduate admission in September, 2011. The deadline at thattime for submitting completed applications will be December 15, 2010.
Applicantsto the MIT EECS graduate program should apply using the EECSon-line admissions site.
If youfind it impossible to apply on-line, you can send in a paper application.

1. Who is eligible to apply to EECS?
We expect an applicant tohave earned a Bachelor's degree by the time he/she registers in EECS, andpossess a very strong background in math, physics, computer science, orengineering. Admission is extremely competitive.
2. How do I apply?
The online application is thepreferred method of applying, and the new online application is available at: https://apply.eecs./. If you find it impossibleto apply on-line, you can send in a paperapplication.
The deadline for applying isDecember 15 and after that date we will no longer accept applications eitheronline or in paper form. After you have submitted your online application youcannot change it. You can add comments after you submit, to record fallterm grades or to add other information.
In order to avoid any delays,applicants should ask their faculty to submit recommendation letterselectronically. only transcripts should be submitted via regular mail delivery,although you may also submit a list of publications and a CV. They should besent to the Graduate Office, Room 38-444, MIT, Cambridge MA 02139.
Wherever possible,international applicants should avoid using PO boxes in their return addresses.
3. Howdo I pay the application fee?
The online system requiresyou to pay with a credit card. We encourage you to use the online system, butif it is impossible for you to pay with a credit card, you may send in a paperapplication with a check to the Graduate Office, Room 38-444, MIT, Cambridge,MA 02139.
4. I applied earlier; how may I reapply?
You should fill out acompletely new online application. You may indicate that you applied earlier bychecking the appropriate box.
